Beets! Strawberries! Ok...everything else is green, but we're getting there.
Cooking My Way Through My CSA

Eggs Baked in Collard Greens with Black-Eyed Peas & Salsa
It seems that I am surrounded by pregnant people lately. I have several pregnant friends and colleagues, and a few whose little ones just turned one. Every time I log onto Facebook there's another profile picture that's been changed to a sonogram picture. For about a month, every time I went to Brooklyn Sandwich Society for brunch, someone told me that they (or their partner) was pregnant. I am not letting anyone else trick me into going there for brunch--though their brunch is a-ma-zing. You know, just in case it's contagious. Because what good is brunch food if you can't enjoy runny yolks and mimosas?

Rhubarb Apple Pandowdy
I've been trying to get D to love rhubarb, but seem to have failed. It seems like a thing he should like. He likes cranberries and passion fruit and other tart and sweet fruits. I baked a rhubarb pie two weeks ago, but he had a cold and wasn't much interested in trying it. And I can't quite get him interested in something called a "pandowdy". So I'm going to share it with all of you. Because you all appreciate rhubarb.

Week 2: Greens, Greens and More Greens
So much lettuce, so little to make it interesting. When life throws you several pounds of lettuce and no root vegetables make... I don't know...

Turnip Curry
Turnips. I had never eaten them much before they started showing up in my CSA. They're not a vegetable I grew up eating, so when I was faced with them week after week, it took some real detective work to figure out what to do with them.

Arugula Salad with Strawberries and Poached Rhubarb
Strawberries and rhubarb are a fantastic combination. And you all know I'm a fan of savory rhubarb preparations. This salad is slightly sweet, but with a peppery bite from the arugula and a bit of crunch from the almonds.

CSA Season Has Begun!
It's the first day of June. The school year is almost over. My 2013 CSA season started today. Things are pretty good. Except that we haven't put in the A/C yet and a brownstone apartment with skylights is sort of like one of those solar ovens they used to make us build on Girl Scout camping trips.
